Anthony Pucik-
Yankees’ outfielder Curtis Granderson will be out for 10 weeks after breaking his forearm in his first Spring training game today.
He suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch by Blue Jays’ starter J.A. Happ. The injury will cause Granderson to miss the first month of the season.
The Yankees were going to try and play Granderson in left field and have Brett Gardner play center in spring training to see if it would improve the outfield. But with Granderson’s injury that cannot happen.
The Yankees lost Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones to free agency, two key players to fill in for outfielders when they needed rest last season, and were thus lacking depth in the outfield already. With Granderson’s injury, the Yankees lose a great hitter atop their order who can give them power well as an everyday outfielder.
